Professional Carpet Cleaning Makes Life Easier for You and Your Carpet, says Werner Braun
In his February 4, 2012 column titled "Professional carpet cleaning" for Dalton’s Daily-Citizen Carpet and Rug Institute President Werner Braun discusses the gift of a professional carpet cleaning.- Be realistic about companies that advertise cleaning priced by the room. Charges should reflect the total area cleaned, and room sizes vary greatly.
- Make sure you select a cleaning professional with certification from an organization that certifies professionals.
- Ask the potential service provider good questions, such as “How long have you been in business?” “What formal training is required for the company’s management and technicians?” and “Do you vacuum before deep cleaning the carpet?”
- Be sure to arrange for an in-home inspection and estimate before you commit.
- And most importantly, find out if the service you’re considering uses CRI Seal of Approval cleaning solutions and equipment. Seal of Approval products have been independently tested and certified to effectively clean carpet without causing any damage.”

Agree with everything recommending in this post. Carpet cleaning can also improve indoor air quality. We also recommend you ask the company if they offer a guarantee. If a coupon sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
I own a carpet cleaning company in Jacksonville, FL. I would add to this blog the fact that Shaw carpet one of the largest carpet manufacturers will void their carpet warranty if the carpet isn't cleaned by a professional carpet cleaner using steam cleaning. Most of the DYI solutions leave too much residue behind which attracts more dirt than was originally in the carpet before being cleaned.

I love this information about asking the right questions. A carpet cleaning company's answers to hard questions like this can really show you whether or not they're a quality company and if they're going to do quality work. When you get specific about the techniques they use and why those are effective, you will start to see the weaknesses in a weak company and the strength in a strong one.
The biggest misconception seems to be people thinking the carpet cleaning machines rented at the store will do as good of a job as a professional carpet cleaning company.
We remind our customers to vacuum twice a week. Most people don't even vacuum once a week. We recommend they purchase a quality vacuum cleaner as well.
Thanks for all these good comments - I used to vacuum once a week, but have been working to do at least a touch-up in between times. Hardest part is getting the vacuum out and putting it away again.
